Edison Dominates San Clemente at Home (2021)

Huntington Beach – ‘Cap’ Sheue Field

The Edison Chargers carried their offensive momentum from last week into this week with a 42-0 blowout victory over the San Clemente Tritons on Friday at home.

This may have been Edison’s best performance yet. Their offense was unstoppable and their defense allowed little-to-no room for the Tritons to generate anything offensively.

The Edison defense quickly delivered a heavy hit to the Tritons after their own Peyton Gregory stripped San Clemente’s senior quarterback Lachlan Van Rosmalen of the football for a 99-yard fumble return for a touchdown to put the Chargers ahead 7-0 with eight minutes left in the first quarter.

On San Clemente’s next possession, Edison’s Dom Lopez intercepted the football setting up an eventual 3-yard touchdown run for Troy Fletcher with 11:54 left in the second quarter.

The Chargers’ defense was not done yet. Upon giving back the football, Edison’s defensive tackle Hudson Letterman recovered another Tritan fumble at San Clemente’s own 39-yard line. Parker Awad followed up with a 39-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Hampton to put his team out in front 21-0 with 11:44 left in the first half.

Troy Fletcher would score twice more in the third quarter, by way of a 5-yard and 15-yard touchdown run. Fletcher finished the game with six carries, 47 yards and three touchdowns.
Edison’s junior running back Carter Hogue also got in on the action. Hogue cashed in on a 3-yard touchdown run to give his team a 42-0 lead with 7:35 left in the game. He finished the game with 30 yards on eight carries and a touchdown.

Awad continued to look outstanding. He completed 18 of his 23 passes for 316 yards and a touchdown pass.

Edison’s senior wide receiver Nico Brown also showcased an impressive performance. Brown tallied up 7 receptions for 88 yards.

Tucker Tripp gathered four receptions for 62 yards, and Tyler Hampton followed behind with three receptions for 96 yards.

The Chargers (3-2) will open up league play at home against Newport Harbor (1-3) on Thursday, September 30th at 7 p.m.
