Los Alamitos Dominates in First Three Quarters Against Paramount (2021)

Paramount – Pirate Stadium

Los Al dominated the game from beginning to end, beating the Paramount Pirates 50 to 0. The Griffins improve to (3-0) on the season.

Los Al’s offense scored on all but one of their possessions, showing why Malachi Nelson is one of the best high school QBs in the country. Paramount came out with a plan to run the ball right at Los Al but after their 10-minute 1st quarter drive that ended in a turnover, the Pirates struggled to get anything going offensively and didn’t complete their first pass until 3:24 left in the 4th quarter.

The Griffins got off to a fast start as on offense going 81-yards in just two plays – a 12-yard reception by Deandre Moore from Malachi Nelson, followed by a 69-yard touchdown pass from Nelson to Moore. Tyler McLoughlin completed the PAT with 11:36 left in 1st quarter giving Los Al a 7-0 lead.

Paramount responded by sustaining a drive for more than 10 minutes which was extended by three untimely Los Al penalties but ultimately ended with a turnover on downs after a sack by Brian Jurdao and Kaleb McCutchen.

The Griffins offense struck fast once again as Deandre Moore found the endzone for the 4th time this season on a touchdown pass from Malachi Nelson extending Los Al’s lead to 14-0 with 11:32 left in 2nd quarter.

After a defensive stand and a 10-yard punt, the Griffins take over with great field position – inside the Paramount 30-yard line with 9:19 left in the 2nd quarter. Los Al took advantage of the short field as Malachi Nelson connected with 5-star wide out and fellow Oklahoma commit Makai Lemon for a 28-yard TD pass to put Los Al ahead of Paramount 20-0 with 9:04 left in the 2nd quarter. PAT by McLoughlin was no good.

Another Paramount drive stalled after a 3rd down sack by Jurado and Tomczyk. On 4th down the Griffins blocked a punt attempt that went out of the Paramount endzone for a safety making it 22-0 Los Al with 5:55 left in the 2nd quarter.

The Griffins once again found themselves with great field position after a defensive stand and took advantage with another “7-1-4 connection” as Lemon and Nelson hooked up for a 4-yard touchdown to put Los Al ahead 29-0.

On their next drive, Paramount turned the ball over at mid-field on a bad snap. Los Al remained aggressive on offense handing the ball to Nygel Osborne for a 19-yard run followed by a 15-yard reception by Makai Lemon to take the Griffins deep into Paramount territory. Los Al eventually scored, after losing yards on a numerous penalties, on a 7-yard TD run by Nygel Osborne to make it 36-0 with 29 seconds left in the 2nd quarter.

The Griffins executed a squib kick on the following kick off which was recovered by Los Al in the Paramount territory. One play later Gavin Porch caught a 33-yard touchdown pass from Malaki Nelson extending Los Al’s lead to 43-0.

The Griffins took a 43-0 lead going into half time after looking dominant in all three phases of the game.

Freshman Devin Porch gave Nygel Osborne a breather at running back in the 3rd quarter and the offense didn’t miss a beat.

With 1:56 left in the 3rd quarter, Sophomore Jeremiah Jimenez broke a tackle and went up the sideline for Los Al’s final points of the night, a 24-yard TD to make it 50-0 Los Al.

Senior linebacker Jacob Stevens got an interception with just over 8 mins left in the 4th quarter.

Griffins scored on every drive through the 1st 3 quarters and punted for the first time with just over 6 minutes left in the 4th quarter. Paramount took over from their own 39-yard line and completed their first pass of the game with 3:24 left in the 4th quarter.

Next week the Griffins have a tough test as they travel to Fresno to face Buchanan in what’s sure to be their toughest test of the season.
