Corona del Mar Earns Back-to-Back Blowouts Against Paramount (2021)

Newport Beach – Davidson Field

Corona del Mar welcomed their home fans with a breezy 56-6 win over Paramount High School on Friday.

It only took 12 pass attempts for Junior quarterback David Rasor to throw for five touchdowns on just 134 yards. Rasor now has eight passing and one rushing TD in only two games this season.

Three of the Sea Kings’ TDs found the hands of Senior wide receiver John Tipton— all of which occurred in the first quarter of play. Receivers Max Lane and Cooper Hoch also got in on the fun, adding a TD reception each.

“Our receivers are getting separation, we love to see it,” Rasor said. “We have a stacked receiving corp right now.”
At the end of the first quarter, the Sea Kings took a 35-0 lead and most starters were subbed out for backups. QB2 Kaleb Annett and running back Colin Pene both rushed for a TD in the second quarter, extending the lead to 49-0 at the half. He logged out of the game with 71 yards.

Pene, who had his first ever varsity start last week at Downey (128 yards on 24 carries), got his name called in back-to-back weeks in lieu of All-Sunset League Second Team RB Evan Sanders’ leg injury.

The CdM defense showed out in game two, recovering 3 fumbles and executing 2 interceptions all in the first half. Junior linebacker Mason Kubichek recorded the Sea Kings’ second sack of the season with a big play in the second quarter as well.

Leading by nearly 50 at the half, the referees implemented a running clock, and the Sea Kings would not attempt a pass for the rest of the game. Junior TE McGuire Schimm would rush for CdM’s final points of the night, and Paramount concluded all scoring with a passing touchdown in the fourth quarter.

An interesting factoid of the game is CdM gave up negative yards in the first (-2) and forth (-6) quarters. And allowed only 49 yards, total, for the game, which is a new Sea King record.
CdM improved to 2-0 after the win, and will gear up for Palos Verdes next Friday at Davidson field— kickoff at 7 p.m.
