Los Alamitos Pulls Away in Second Half to Defeat Corona del Mar (2025)

Los Alamitos – Griffins Gym

Los Alamitos secured a 68-58 victory over Corona del Mar on Thursday night, using a dominant third-quarter run to create separation in a game that was tightly contested through the first half. Both teams had their moments of momentum, but Los Alamitos’ ability to capitalize on key scoring opportunities in the second half proved to be the difference.

The game opened with Los Alamitos setting the tone early, jumping out to a 16-11 lead in the first quarter. Corona del Mar responded in the second, outscoring the Griffins 17-14 to pull within two points at halftime. Jackson Harlan led the Sea Kings with 18 points and was a force on the boards, grabbing 14 rebounds to keep his team in the fight. Maxwell Scott added 15 points, showing his ability to hit from deep with three three-pointers, while Oliver Nakra contributed 11 points and two made threes.

The turning point came in the third quarter when Los Alamitos erupted for 22 points while holding Corona del Mar to just 13. Samori Guyness led the way with a game-high 22 points, consistently finding ways to score both inside and from beyond the arc. Trent Minter was also a key contributor, finishing with 19 points, including four three-pointers that helped extend the Griffins’ lead. The Griffins’ defensive intensity increased, forcing CdM into difficult shots and limiting their second-chance opportunities.

Despite a strong effort from the Sea Kings in the fourth quarter, Los Alamitos maintained control and closed out the game with solid execution. Wesley Trevino chipped in nine points for the Griffins, while Jordan Taylor added eight to help seal the win. Corona del Mar fought until the final buzzer, but Los Alamitos’ third-quarter rise ultimately created a gap too large to overcome.

The win highlights Los Alamitos’ ability to shift the game’s momentum with efficient scoring and strong defensive play, while Corona del Mar will look to regroup after a competitive showing that just fell short.
