Troy Fletcher Ties School TD Record As Edison Dominates Clovis North (2021)
Huntington Beach – ‘Cap’ Sheue Field
Edison senior running back Troy Fletcher tied a school record Friday night, after collecting five rushing touchdowns in the Chargers’ 35-13 victory over the Clovis North Broncos at Sheue Field (Huntington Beach High School).
Fletcher saw right through the Broncos defense throughout the entire game. It was as if he had a map previewing all possible openings of his opponent’s defensive formation before the football was handed to him. He was that good. By the end of the game, Fletcher tallied up 140 yards on 15 carries.
“I just have to give credit to the lineman,” Fletcher said. “They were dominant upfront, that really opened up the holes and I just got to do my thing.”
After suffering a hefty 54-14 loss against a Trinity League opponent, the Servite Friars last week, Edison was eager to turn the page and showcase their true capabilities against their next contender.
The Chargers scored twice in the first half. Fletcher carried 3 yards into the end zone with 9:08 left in the first quarter to put his team up 7-0. That was the first of five scoring plays we would wind up seeing from him. Fletcher would score once more in the second quarter, twice in the third, and one last time in the fourth. Despite not getting a touchdown pass, Edison’s junior quarterback Parker Awad had a nice game completing 14 of his 20 passes for over 230 yards. Senior wide receiver Nico Brown cashed in on 8 receptions and over 160 yards.
The Edison defense was locked in from the start. They did an outstanding job limiting the running game of the Broncos, and allowed little to no room for passing yards. Clovis North would manage to earn some points on the board in the fourth quarter after a rushing touchdownfrom Paul Sharp and a touchdown pass from their senior quarterback Alek Guerrero to Milan Bryant.
The Chargers are scheduled to travel to Orange Lutheran High School on Friday to face the Lancers at 7 p.m.
