Corona del Mar Battles Hard, But Edison’s Late Surge Secures the Win (2025)
Huntington Beach – Chargers Gym
In an exciting matchup on Friday night, the Corona del Mar Sea Kings faced off against the Edison Chargers in a boys varsity basketball game that kept fans on the edge of their seats. Even with a strong performance from the Sea Kings, the Chargers ultimately claimed a narrow victory, with a final score of 63-59.
The game was a back-and-forth battle from the opening tip, with both teams showcasing grit and determination. The Sea Kings came out strong, focusing on their inside game and making the most of their opportunities in the paint. Maxwell Scott led the charge with 18 points and seven made field goals, providing key buckets and setting the tone early with his aggressive play. Luke Mirhashemi added nine points and was instrumental in creating plays and energizing the team on both ends of the court.
As the game progressed, the Chargers began to find their rhythm, particularly from the free-throw line and beyond the arc. Derick Johnson’s leadership was evident as he poured in a game-high 22 points, including two three-pointers and a perfect 10-for-10 performance at the free-throw line. Connor McNally’s steady contributions in the paint, with 15 points on efficient shooting, helped the Chargers maintain their edge during critical stretches. Jayden Oei also played a pivotal role, adding 14 points and a strong defensive effort.
Defensively, both teams battled fiercely, contesting every shot and fighting for every rebound. Jackson Harlan’s playmaking stood out for the Sea Kings, as he not only facilitated scoring opportunities with six assists but also contributed on the boards and defensively. For the Chargers, Johnson’s all-around effort and McNally’s physical presence in the paint made a noticeable impact in keeping the Sea Kings at bay.
The final minutes of the game were intense, with the Sea Kings making a late push to close the gap. Scott and Mirhashemi combined for key plays, but the Chargers’ ability to convert free throws and capitalize on turnovers proved to be the deciding factor. The energy in the gym was electric, with fans from both sides rallying behind their teams until the final buzzer.
While the Sea Kings came up short, their effort and teamwork were evident throughout the game. The Chargers, meanwhile, showcased.
