Corona del Mar Beats Marina 3-0 to Stay Hot in Sunset League Play (2025)

Huntington Beach – Vikings Gymnasium (MHS)

Corona del Mar continued their Sunset League dominance on Wednesday night, sweeping Marina on the road 25-15, 25-19, 25-15. The Sea Kings relied on steady passing, a balanced offensive attack, and clean execution from start to finish.

From the opening whistle, CdM controlled the tempo. The first set was all Sea Kings, as they jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. The team hit efficiently, with Ben Brown and Daniel Booker pacing the attack. CdM totaled 51 kills on the night while hitting at a stellar .423 clip as a team—highlighting their rhythm and precision offensively.

Set two proved to be the tightest one of the match. Marina responded with some more energy, fueled by stronger defense and scrappier play. Setter Andy Tran was a bright spot for the Vikings, digging at a high level and getting in a couple kills himself. A few key service runs kept Marina close, but the kills and blocking from CdM helped the Sea Kings seal off a 25-19 win.

The third set mirrored the first, with the Sea Kings putting the match away quickly. Brogan Glenn provided a spark with strong net presence, while CdM’s defense continued to frustrate Marina’s hitters. CdM out-dug Marina, with multiple players contributing in the back row—including nine digs from both Glenn and Hunter Hannemann.

The Sea Kings finished with 47 assists in total, showing off their depth and consistency in setting. On the defensive end, CdM tallied seven total blocks, four of them solo, to shut down Marina’s attack.

Marina showed flashes throughout the match. David Le was effective at the net, and Skye Aizawa led the Vikings with three aces and five digs. However, Marina struggled with side-outs and was unable to sustain offensive momentum against CdM’s well-rounded effort.

With the win, Corona del Mar moves to 4-1 in Sunset League play and will look to keep it rolling as league matches continue. Marina adds to their league losing streak of seven now, and will need to bounce back in upcoming games.
