Corona del Mar Erupts in Second Half to Dominate Huntington Beach, 70-44 (2025)

Newport Beach – Sea Kings Gym

Corona del Mar delivered a dominant second-half performance to cruise past Huntington Beach 70-44 on Wednesday night. While the game remained relatively close in the first half, the Sea Kings turned up the intensity after halftime, outscoring the Oilers 45-25 in the final two quarters to seal a commanding victory.

The game opened with a competitive first quarter, as both teams found early offensive success. Corona del Mar held a slight 12-10 lead after the first eight minutes, with Huntington Beach responding well to the Sea Kings’ early pressure. However, CdM began to separate themselves in the second quarter, limiting the Oilers to just nine points while adding 13 of their own to take a 25-19 halftime lead.

The second half was all Corona del Mar. Their offense erupted for 20 points in the third quarter while Huntington Beach managed just eight, putting the game firmly in CdM’s control. Jackson Harlan was instrumental in this dominance, finishing the night with 18 points while also contributing defensively with six rebounds and two steals. Maxwell Scott led the Sea Kings in scoring with an efficient 20-point performance, shooting 9-for-12 from the field. Ganon Overfelt provided a strong supporting effort with 12 points and five made free throws, helping CdM capitalize on their second-half momentum.

Huntington Beach struggled to keep pace offensively, with Jamil House leading the team with 16 points, 10 of which came from the free-throw line. Jonah Kim chipped in with 11 points but found it difficult to find open looks against CdM’s stifling defense. The Oilers’ offensive struggles were amplified in the fourth quarter as CdM closed the game on a high note, scoring 25 points in the final frame to secure the dominant 26-point victory.

Corona del Mar’s ability to control the pace, lock down defensively, and execute in transition ultimately proved to be the deciding factors. The win highlights their ability to impose their will as the game progresses, while Huntington Beach will need to regroup and find more consistency heading into their next matchup.
