Corona del Mar Falls Short Against Marina High School on Friday Night (2025)

Huntington Beach – Vikings Gym

The Marina Vikings displayed their dominance in a thrilling varsity basketball matchup against the Corona del Mar Sea Kings on Friday night, securing a decisive 71-57 victory. The game opened with Marina setting the tone early, outscoring the Sea Kings 20-12 in the first quarter. Their offense, led by Shane Gloger and Barak Simon, flowed effortlessly as they capitalized on turnovers and quick transitions. Meanwhile, Corona del Mar struggled to find their rhythm and maintain possession, leaving them trailing from the start.

The second quarter saw the Sea Kings rally with improved defense and a more composed offense. Oliver Nakra provided a spark for CdM, driving to the basket and hitting key shots to keep his team within reach. Despite their efforts, Marina’s consistency and depth ensured they maintained a slight edge, leading 33-25 at halftime.

The third quarter proved pivotal, as Marina’s offensive firepower surged once more. Dylan Gomez caught fire from beyond the arc, sinking four three-pointers in the game and keeping the Sea Kings on their heels. Inside, Luke Pratali dominated with ten rebounds, providing crucial second-chance opportunities and strong finishes at the rim. While CdM found some offensive rhythm and tallied 21 points in the quarter—led again by Nakra and Maxwell Scott—it wasn’t enough to close the gap, as Marina answered every push with consistent scoring to carry a double-digit lead into the final period.

Marina sealed the victory in the fourth quarter with poise and control, limiting CdM’s scoring opportunities and playing disciplined basketball. Shane Gloger, who finished with 17 points, three three-pointers, and a strong all-around performance, led the charge for the Vikings. Dylan Gomez and Barak Simon also came out to compete, contributing 14 and 15 points, respectively, with Simon dishing out an impressive 12 assists. Defensively, Mark Yeager’s six deflections and two steals played a key role in stifling CdM’s attempts to stage a comeback. For Corona del Mar, Nakra’s 12 points and Scott’s 10 points and four assists stood out, but the team’s struggles with turnovers and shooting inefficiency ultimately hindered their ability to keep pace.

The Vikings’ balanced attack, defensive energy, and ability to control the tempo throughout the game proved too much for the Sea Kings. While Corona del Mar displayed flashes of resilience, Marina’s depth and composure highlighted their strength as a team and earned them a well-deserved victory.
