Corona del Mar Takes Down Rancho Cucamonga in CIF-SS Playoff Opener (2025)

Rancho Cucamonga – Cougars Gym

The Corona del Mar High School boys’ basketball team delivered an electric fourth-quarter performance to secure a 73-62 victory over Rancho Cucamonga in the first round of the CIF-SS playoffs on Wednesday night.

From the outset, the game was close, with CdM holding a narrow 15-13 lead at the end of the first quarter. Both teams exchanged baskets in the second period, but the Sea Kings managed to maintain their lead heading into halftime with a 29-25 advantage.

As the third quarter unfolded, CdM’s offense momentarily stalled, allowing Rancho Cucamonga to cut into the deficit. However, a fourth-quarter explosion sealed the win for the visiting Sea Kings. CdM stacked up 31 points in the final quarter, outscoring Rancho Cucamonga by a decisive margin.

Maxwell Scott led the way for Corona del Mar with an impressive 22 points, shooting 9-for-18 from the field while knocking down four three-pointers. His ability to space the floor and convert from beyond the arc was a key factor in keeping Rancho Cucamonga’s defense on its heels. Luke Mirhashemi added 15 points on efficient shooting (5-for-7) and was perfect from the free-throw line, while Oliver Nakra contributed 13 points and seven made free throws, helping CdM ice the game in the closing moments.

Rancho Cucamonga’s offense was led by Aaron Glass, who tallied a game-high 23 points while draining three three-pointers. Mckel Shedrick provided a strong inside presence, scoring 18 points and pulling down nine rebounds. Despite their efforts, Rancho Cucamonga was unable to overcome CdM’s late-game success.

Defensively, CdM showed discipline and hustle, forcing turnovers and limiting Rancho Cucamonga’s scoring opportunities in key moments. Ganon Overfelt played a key role on both ends of the floor, tallying nine points, five assists, and two steals. Jackson Harlan also made an impact, scoring 12 points while grabbing 10 rebounds, finishing with a double-double.

With this victory, Corona del Mar advances to the next round of the CIF-SS playoffs, carrying momentum from a well-executed road win. Rancho Cucamonga, despite the loss, showcased strong individual performances but struggled to match CdM’s fourth-quarter firepower.

The Sea Kings will now prepare for their upcoming matchup as they continue their playoff journey, hoping to build on their strong finish against Rancho Cucamonga.
