Friday night the lightning struck, in their opening play Edison’s half-back Julius Gillick rushed for 45 yards for a first down resulting in a 3-yard touchdown run for Savelio Niumata on first down, 7-0, Chargers.
This “attack” mentality trended upward as Edison’s defense secured sacks on the first and second possessions against quarterback Ryan Rakowski. In the Charger’s next drive Niumata connected with receiver Jacob Martin for a 33-yard reception and another 6 points. Chargers 14 Palos Verdes 0.
In the second quarter, Gillick turned on the wheels again and plowed his way through defenders for a 51-yard touchdown run 21-0 Chargers.
Just before the end of the second quarter, Niumata threw another 16-yard touchdown pass to Carson Schimdt making it 27-7 at the half. But the onslaught was not over, returning in the third quarter Edison’s Gillick trotted in another 3-yard goal line rush into the endzone boosting the Chargers 34-7.
With three minutes left to go in the third quarter, on 1st-and-goal for the Chargers, Maddox Thomas pushes through the line for another touchdown, 35-7. The Chargers repel any scoring attempt by Palos Verdes for the remainder of the fourth quarter securing a win and and reviving their record now (2-2).
