Edison Takes the Bell Game from Fountain Valley, 49-6

Huntington Beach – Edison High School Football Field

The Edison Chargers delivered a commanding 49-6 victory over rival Fountain Valley in the annual Bell Game, extending their winning streak to three games. The packed stadium showcased the spirit of high school football on Friday night, with both teams putting on a competitive display.

Edison’s Senior standout running back Julius Gillick, led the charge, supported by a strong offensive line. Gillick sprinted 80 yards for a touchdown, giving Edison a 7-0 lead. The offensive line, featuring Junior tight end Devyn Blake, was crucial in creating running lanes and protecting the quarterback.

Senior quarterback Savelio Niumata connected with Senior receiver Shea Summers for early momentum, while the defense consistently pressured Fountain Valley’s quarterback. Edison built a 21-0 lead by the second quarter, with Senior defensive back Carson Schmidt scoring a defensive touchdown after a forced turnover.

Gillick praised Fountain Valley’s effort, acknowledging their key players. “Those guys hit hard and brought it,” he said after the game.

Fountain Valley showed resilience, putting together a nine-minute drive in the second half, resulting in a touchdown pass from Senior quarterback Lucas Alexander. However, Edison had already sealed the game.

Reflecting on their 3-2 record, Gillick noted that early losses served as lessons that motivated the team. “We deserved to lose those games, but they taught us valuable lessons,” he explained.

Edison head coach Jeff Grady praised his team’s effort in the emotional rivalry game. “It’s always special when both communities come out in full force,” he said.

The Chargers, now 3-2, aim to maintain their momentum as they prepare for a tough matchup against defending CIF champions, Sierra Canyon.
