Edison Opens League Play With a Dominating Win Over Huntington Beach (2022)

Huntington Beach – ‘Cap’ Sheue Field

Edison opened Sunset League play with a dominating 42-8 win over Huntington Beach on Friday night at Sheue Field. Quarterback Parker Awad passed for three touchdowns and ran for another touchdown to help the Chargers improve to 6-0.

The Chargers scored 35 points in the first quarter and played their backups in the second half. Huntington Beach scored a touchdown in the third quarter to avoid the shutout.

Edison took a 7-0 lead on their opening drive when Awad hit Mason York in stride for a 36-yard touchdown. After HB turned the ball over on downs following two sacks, Awad connected with Ashton Hurley for a 24-yard touchdown and a 14-0 lead.

“It’s a great way to start out league (play),” York said. “We came out strong and executed the game plan.

Edison forced a punt on the ensuing drive and only used two plays to get into the end zone as Carter Hogue went up the middle untouched for a 40-yard touchdown. HB running back Tyler Young fumbled on the first play of the next drive and Edison recovered.

Awad didn’t waste any time by throwing a 20-yard touchdown pass to York for a 28-0 lead. The Chargers’ defense forced another punt and Awad capped a 7-play, 63-yard drive with an 8-yard touchdown run to give Edison a 35-0 lead.

Hogue gave the Chargers a 42-0 lead before halftime with a 6-yard touchdown run. Edison will be back in action next Friday, Oct. 7 against Newport Harbor.
