Fountain Valley Shut Out By El Toro (2021)

Lake Forest – Charger Stadium

The Fountain Valley High School football team got shut out in its first road game of the season, losing 42-0 to El Toro on Friday at El Toro High School.

El Toro quarterback Blake Miller was able to elude the stingy Fountain Valley defense, as the visiting team’s defense was on the field more times than not through the contest. On the opening drive, Miller found Collin Payne for a 21-yard touchdown pass in the endzone, giving the Chargers (3-0) the 7-0 lead.

The Barons’ offense struggled to get much going, as it only totaled 111 yards in terms of receiving and rushing. To the offenses’ credit, the running back duo of Ben Pham and Abdel Habibeh did everything they could to try and get a drive going.

Fountain Valley eventually punted on its first drive, and El Toro got all the way to the opponents’ two-yard line at the end of the opening quarter. On the first play of the second quarter, Miller snuck it in for the score, giving the Chargers a 14-0.

After El Toro registered an interception on Owen Tomko, Miller showed off his arm again by hitting Josh Vivonia with a 28-yard touchdown pass, boosting its lead to 21-0. The Chargers picked off Tomko at the Barons’ 32, and on the first play of the Chargers’ drive, Miller used his legs to get the touchdown and eventually put them up 28-0 at halftime.

Eventually, Miller registered his fifth touchdown of the night and his third via passing, as he hit running back Carson Olsen with a screen pass that eventually went for a 61-yard score. Olsen also wasn’t done scoring touchdowns, as he had a 55-yard touchdown run to not only give him his second touchdown of the night, but his accumulation of over 100 scrimmage yards.

Through three games, Fountain Valley has only been able to muster 20 points while surrendering 69 to its opponents. The Barons (1-2) return to action next Friday against Marina (0-3) at Boswell Field at Westminster High school at 7pm.
