Huntington Beach Oilers Power Past Mayfair in 31-21 Win

The Huntington Beach Oilers claimed a much-needed 31-21 win over the defending CIF champions, the Mayfair Monsoons, on Friday night. Following a heartbreaking loss the previous week, the Oilers responded with a dominant performance that showcased their offensive firepower and defensive grit.

Sophomore quarterback Brady Edmunds delivered an impressive outing, throwing for 275 yards and three touchdowns. His key connection was with Junior wide receiver Troy Foster, who was a force throughout the game, totaling 157 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Foster’s big plays, including a deep go-route that sealed the game, kept the Oilers ahead.

On defense, Huntington Beach was relentless, holding Mayfair to under 150 total yards and pressuring their quarterback all night long with five sacks. Defensive standouts like Junior safety Steel Kurtz and Senior defensive end Brody Rutherford played pivotal roles in shutting down Mayfair’s attempts to create a comeback.

“We challenged our guys to be physical this week, and I think they responded,” said Coach Brown. “This bye week will give us some time to get healthy, and work on some fundamentals, and some individual stuff to keep our momentum going for league.”

With the win, the Oilers improve their record and head into the bye with confidence. Their next game will be after a well-earned break, giving them time to prepare for a strong league run.
