Huntington Beach Defeats Fountain Valley for First Win in League Play (2022)

Huntington Beach – ‘Cap’ Sheue Field

Huntington Beach wide receiver AJ Vandermade scored two touchdowns to help the Oilers bounce back with a 23-12 win over Fountain Valley on Friday night at Cap Sheue Field.

The Oilers won their first league game and improved to 5-2 on the season. Fountain Valley dropped to 4-3 overall and 0-2 in league play.
“We came out focused and a little sloppy,” Vandermade said. “But we got it done.”

Fountain Valley took a 6-0 lead in the second quarter when Vandermade fumbled the ball in the end zone on a reverse and the Barons fell on top of it for the score.
On the ensuing drive, Tyler Young took the handoff and broke loose for a 64-yard touchdown. HB missed the PAT.

After the Oilers defense forced a punt, Daunte Bell hit Vandermade in the end zone for a 23-yard touchdown and a 13-6 lead in the first quarter.
Jad Othman gave the HB a 16-6 lead in the third quarter with a 36-yard field goal. On Fountain Valley’s next drive, Noa Banua was intercepted by linebacker Nathan Tauanuu.

Huntington Beach capitalized on the turnover with an 11-yard touchdown passs from Bell to Vandermade and the Oilers took a 23-6 lead with 10:57 left in the fourth quarter.

The Barons cut the lead 23-12 on Banua’s 6-yard touchdown pass to Nolan Olivares in the fourth quarter.

Huntington Beach is back in action on Friday, Oct. 14 when they host Corona Del Mar. Fountain Valley will be on the road to take on Newport Harbor.
