Los Alamitos Early Lead Fades as Newport Harbor Rallies for Road Win 6-4 (2025)
Los Alamitos – Griffins Field
In a competitive Sunset League battle on Tuesday afternoon, Newport Harbor came through in the clutch to beat Los Alamitos 6-4 at the Griffins’ home field.
Los Alamitos jumped ahead early, plating a run in three of the first four innings. Wyatt Joyce opened the scoring in the second, coming home on an RBI single by Damon Valdez. In the third, James Reveles singled and later scored on a fielding error in center field to make it 2-0.
Newport Harbor broke through in the top of the fourth, piecing together a three-run rally. Henry Mann brought Elijah Haseth home with an RBI single to right. Shortly after, Marcus Hamrock scored on a single from Adam Martin to tie the game at 2-2. With Sailors loaded bases, Los Alamitos pitcher Sean Kassawara got out of the jam with a strikeout to end the frame.
The Griffins wasted no time reclaiming the lead in the bottom half. Damon Valdez delivered again with his second RBI of the game—singling to center to bring home Tyler Smith and make it 3-2 Los Alamitos.
In the sixth, Martin delivered again with a sac fly that scored Cameron Hatfield and tied it up for the Sailors. The momentum carried into the seventh as Jackson Stremick ran it in, marching from base to base. Mann then added an RBI single to plate both Haseth and Cole Harrison to stretch the lead to 6-3.
Los Alamitos mounted a late push in the bottom of the seventh. Kaden Carrion and Wyatt Joyce both drew walks while Sutton Deninno hit a single, loading the bases. Tyler Smith then walked to bring home Carrion and cut the deficit to 6-4, but a groundout ended the game with the tying run on base.
Both teams competed with resilience—Los Al’s patient at-bats led to seven walks and consistent pressure, while Newport capitalized on late-inning execution and clutch pitching to escape with a key league win.
