Marina Defeats Sunny Hills in Season Opener (2024)

Marina remains undefeated with a dominant 21-6 victory over Sunny Hills, improving to 6-0 overall and 1-0 in league play. Senior running back Gabe Carles led the charge for Marina, following strong offensive line play to power through the defense, including a key early touchdown that set the tone for the game.

Marina’s defense was just as impressive, shutting down Sunny Hills’ offense. Senior linebacker Troy Atkins and Junior defensive back Gabriel Jessee had success, stifling the run game and pressuring the quarterback. Sunny Hills managed one touchdown but failed to convert the two-point attempt, leaving Marina ahead 7-6 at halftime.

In the second half, Marina’s run game continued to dominate, with Carles adding another touchdown and Senior quarterback Garrett Hunnicutt scoring on a keeper. By the fourth quarter, Marina had extended their lead to 21-6, and the defense, led by standout performances from Senior linebacker Duk Caldwell and Junior defensive lineman Brandon Atchison, sealed the win by constantly harassing the Sunny Hills quarterback.
