Newport Harbor Continues Losing Streak vs. Cajon 41-21 (2024)

San Bernardino – Jayden Daniels Stadium

Newport Harbor fought hard in their latest game, but ultimately fell to Cajon 42-21, extending their winless streak this season. Due to fires affecting the venue, the Sailors were forced to play their “home” game on the road, adding to an already difficult matchup against a strong Cajon team that had previously beaten Norco and Etiwanda.

Cajon took control early, jumping to a 28-0 lead by capitalizing on Newport Harbor’s mistakes and missed scoring opportunities. Despite being down, the Sailors refused to give up. In the second half, Newport Harbor Sophomore Owen Baldakowski recovered an onside kick, and Junior quarterback Jake Meer led a late rally. Meer found Senior receivers Sammy Stremick and Cade Fegel for crucial plays, while Beckham Dutcher, who had been pivotal in blocking all night, was rewarded with a touchdown catch.

Cajon, however, continued to dominate, adding more points to maintain their lead. Although Harbor managed to score a pair of late touchdowns, including a final touchdown pass from Meer to Fegel, the gap was too large to overcome.

Newport Harbor’s offense showed signs of potential, but the turnovers and missed opportunities costed too much. As they continue to search for their first win of the season, the Sailors hope to recollect their efforts heading into their next game.
