Newport Harbor Takes Down Huntington Beach in Commanding 61-45 Win (2025)
Huntington Beach – Oilers Gym
The Newport Harbor Sailors showcased their dominance on Saturday night with a commanding 61-45 victory over the Huntington Beach Oilers. From the opening tip, Newport Harbor set the tone with a strong first quarter, outscoring the Oilers 20-10 and establishing an early lead they would never relinquish. Their aggressive defense and efficient shooting kept Huntington Beach playing from behind for most of the game.
Newport Harbor extended their lead in the second quarter, holding Huntington Beach to just eight points while adding 16 of their own. Gavin Guy was a standout performer, leading all scorers with 17 points, including three three-pointers. Jack Berry and Niko Salomon provided key contributions, with Berry scoring 13 points and Salomon adding eight while shooting efficiently from beyond the arc. At halftime, Newport Harbor held a comfortable 36-18 advantage, putting Huntington Beach in a tough position for a comeback.
Huntington Beach showed some life in the third quarter, outscoring Newport Harbor 15-12. James McNamara led the Oilers’ efforts, finishing with 14 points on the night, while Jamil House added 13 points and seven rebounds. River Gutierrez also provided a spark with nine points and aggressive play inside. Despite their improved performance in the second half, the Oilers struggled to put together a significant run to cut into Newport Harbor’s double-digit lead.
The fourth quarter was a balanced affair, with both teams scoring 12 points, allowing the Sailors to comfortably close out the win. Newport Harbor’s ball movement and defensive presence continued to be a major factor, forcing Huntington Beach into difficult shots and limiting their second-chance opportunities.
Newport Harbor’s control of the game from start to finish was evident in their well-rounded performance. Their ability to get contributions from multiple players, combined with strong perimeter shooting and defensive execution, kept Huntington Beach at bay. Despite the Oilers’ second-half efforts, Newport Harbor’s early lead and consistent play ensured they walked away with a convincing 61-45 victory.
