Sailors Stay Hot: Newport Harbor Tops Edison in a 7-0 Shutout Victory at Stuart Fine Field (2025)

Newport Beach – Stuart Fine Field (NHHS)

Newport Harbor turned in a complete performance Wednesday afternoon, blanking Edison 7-0 in a Sunset League showdown at Stuart Fine Field. Behind stellar pitching and a rounded offensive attack, the Sailors jumped out early and never looked back.

The scoring began in the bottom of the first inning when Adam Martin led off with a single and moved to second on an error by Edison’s third baseman. Gavin Guy then drove him in with a single for the Sailors’ first score, and Wyatt Gahm added a sacrifice fly to bring home Elijah Haseth for their second. Grant Horsley capped the inning with a double, scoring Guy to make it 3-0 after one.

Later in the bottom of the fourth, Jackson Stremick singled and stole second before scoring on a base hit by Brooks Francis to extend Newport Harbor’s lead to 4-0. Adam Martin followed with a walk, but the Sailors left two runners stranded after Elijah Haseth grounded out to end the inning.

The Sailors added insurance in the fifth and sixth innings. Grant Horsley continued his big day with an RBI single in the fifth, scoring Wyatt Gahm after a hit-by-pitch and error. In the sixth, Myers added another RBI, scoring Noah Whittaker on a base hit to center. Lucas Perez followed with his second sacrifice fly of the game, resulting in another Adam Martin score, extending the lead to 7-0.

Pitching

On the mound, Newport was dominant. Starter Keaton Anderson threw 4 shutout innings, allowing just 3 hits and striking out 3. Elijah Haseth and Wyatt Gahm followed with 3 innings of hitless, scoreless relief, combining for 4 strikeouts and locking down the clean sheet. The pitching staff allowed just three hits and no Edison runner reached third base all game.

Edison, meanwhile, struggled to keep the Sailors off the bases. Starter Drew Gonzalez was tagged for 4 earned runs on 6 hits over 3.2 innings, and the bullpen couldn’t stop the bleeding. Newport consistently found ways to apply pressure—forcing errors, taking extra bases, and capitalizing on every opportunity. While Edison’s pitchers managed to record 7 strikeouts, they were ultimately unable to contain Newport Harbor’s disciplined and aggressive offense.

Batting

At the plate, Grant Horsley went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Zach Myers finished 1-for-1 with two RBIs and a walk in limited action, while Adam Martin and Jackson Stremick each reached base multiple times and scored.

Edison’s offense was stifled by Newport Harbor’s dominant pitching, managing just three hits in the game. Cody Kruis and Shane Timmons each collected a single, but no Charger advanced past second base. Despite drawing five walks, Edison couldn’t capitalize, leaving multiple runners stranded and failing to generate any sustained threat.

What’s next

With the win, Newport Harbor improves in league play and continues to build momentum in the Sunset League race. The Sailors return to action this week with their next league matchup on the road.

Edison will look to regroup after the shutout loss as they aim to stay competitive in the Sunset League standings. The Chargers will have a chance to bounce back later this week in their next league game.
