San Clemente Beats Edison 21-17 in 4th Quarter Rally, Chargers Secure Playoff Spot (2024)
San Clemente – Thalassa Stadium
Edison’s quest for redemption against San Clemente came up short on Friday as the Chargers fell 21-17 in a nail-biter, marking their second consecutive loss.
Edison held a 10-7 lead heading into the fourth quarter, but the Tritons’ running back Colin Kohl was unstoppable, rushing for 123 yards and all three Triton touchdowns, including two pivotal scores in the final five minutes of the game.
Despite the loss, Edison displayed solid performances. Julius Gillick was a force on the ground, posting 95 rushing yards and a touchdown, while quarterback Sam Thomson connected with Gavin Slaughter for a second score. On defense, Carson Schmidt had a crucial interception to keep Edison within striking distance.
With the loss, Edison’s record moves to 6-4, yet they clinched the second automatic Alpha League playoff spot after a three-way tie with San Clemente and Los Alamitos, winning the placement on a coin flip. Edison looks forward to facing North at home next Friday, defending their long-standing win streak, while San Clemente will gear up for Damien, a high-scoring opponent averaging over 33 points per game.
