Trabuco Secures Win Over Huntington Beach (2024)

Huntington Beach – Sheue Field

Huntington Beach’s explosive offense wasn’t enough to secure victory on Friday night as they fell 42-38 to Trabuco Hills in a thrilling non league matchup at Huntington Beach. The Oilers (1-1) did however find success in showing off their firepower, led by Sophomore quarterback Brady Edmunds, who threw for 354 yards and four touchdowns, each finding a different wide receiver.

The Oilers got off to a hot start with Junior running back Troy Foster returning the opening kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown. Foster continued his star performance with nine receptions for 140 yards and another score, helping Huntington Beach build a 31-21 lead by halftime.

Despite the early dominance, Huntington Beach was held to just seven points in the second half as Trabuco Hills’ defense tightened up. Edmunds led a final drive late in the fourth quarter, pushing the Oilers down to the Mustangs’ 14-yard line, but the comeback was stopped when his fourth-down pass was broken up by Senior defensive back Landon Zack.

In addition to Foster’s amazing performance, Faris Shehadeh had six catches for 104 yards, including a 27-yard touchdown that briefly gave the Oilers the lead in the second half. Senior and Junior wide receivers Niko Lopez and Steel Kurtz also found the end zone with touchdown grabs.

Despite the offensive breakthrough, the Oilers couldn’t overcome Trabuco Hills’ second-half rally. The Mustangs’ defense made key adjustments, causing a huge interception by Junior defensive back Christian Box and preventing Huntington Beach’s high momentum attack in the final moments of the game.
