Tristin Dalzell Fans 10 as Los Alamitos Blanks Newport Harbor in Statement Win 8-0 (2025)

Newport Beach – Stuart Fine Field (NHHS)

In a dominant showing on Wednesday afternoon, Los Alamitos shut out Newport Harbor 8-0 on the road, riding strong early offense and electric pitching to a wire-to-wire Sunset League victory. The Griffins came out swinging in the first inning, taking advantage of walks and run-scoring hits to quickly build a 3-0 lead.

Tyler Smith opened the scoring with an RBI single to right field, scoring Devin Porch, followed by another RBI single from Rowan Shelley, loading the bases. Damon Valdez then capped the rally with a two-run double deep into center field, bringing home both Wyatt Joyce and Smith.

After four whole quiet innings, Los Alamitos added two more in the sixth when Cade Barnett and Valdez scored on a line drive RBI single from James Reveles. Then, in the seventh, the Griffins didn’t have any mercy, as they ran up the score three more times. It started with Sutton Deninno driving in Devin Porch on a sharp single to right field, pushing the lead to 6-0. Cruz D’Errico, who had moved up to second, then came around to score on a ground ball from Tyler Smith that turned into a fielder’s choice—Smith reached safely as shortstop Adam Martin flipped to second baseman Cole Harrison. Wyatt Joyce also advanced into scoring position, and Deninno took third. Finally, Rowan Shelley capped the inning with a sacrifice fly to left fielder Elijah Haseth, deep enough to allow Deninno to tag up and score Los Alamitos’ eighth run, finishing it 8-0. It was a methodical and disciplined offensive push from the Griffins that proved their ability to close out games with execution and pressure in the late innings.

Pitching

Tristin Dalzell struck out 10 over six dominant shutout innings, allowing just one hit and four walks. Hudson Binder struck out one in the seventh to complete the shutout. For Newport, four pitchers combined to limit further damage, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome. Keaton Anderson allowed three runs with one strikeout in two innings, while his teammate Elijah Haseth threw 5 strikeouts in four innings.

Batting

Damon Valdez led the Griffins with a two-RBI double and a run scored. Tyler Smith added two hits, two RBIs, and a run. Rowan Shelley drove in two, and James Reveles added two RBIs. Newport’s lone hit came from Elijah Haseth with a third-inning double.

What’s next

Los Alamitos will certainly build on this win as they continue Sunset League play, gaining traction in the standings with a dominant team performance. Newport Harbor, now 6-2 in league play, will need to respond in the next Los Alamitos matchup and get back on track with cleaner execution and more run production.
